The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major. The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term trainer Cervara. Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet. This marks Medvedev's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year. Success also signifies the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions. "It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion. "This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her." The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months. His counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was finished. However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve. Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five points to go ahead. Both players swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set. The opponent saved four initial break points in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory. Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
